On Saturday, June 15, 2019, everyone can come together for a little competitive family fun at the Sugar Daddy Race. With a kids’ fun race, 5K, 10K and half marathon, there is a race for everyone in the family to run, jog or walk. Featuring four courses on the paseos, each one takes a different tour through the gorgeous Santa Clarita Valley. Race day check-in is from 5 to 6 a.m. at the Iron Horse Bridge, only 8.6 miles from Skyline. And, at the end of your race, enjoy ice cream to help you cool off. Register today.
Vasquez Rocks Natural Area and Nature Center
Get outside and go on a hike at one of the many parks in the Santa Clarita area. If you didn’t have the chance to take your mom to a park on Mother’s Day, this is certain to be a big hit for Father’s Day. At Vasquez Rocks Natural Area and Nature Center, 16.5 miles from Skyline, you can pick from a variety of activities with their hiking and equestrian trails, campsites, picnic tables, animal exhibits and more. Open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., there will be plenty of time to go for a hike or horseback ride before or after lunch. Or, camp out for a night or two and spend the weekend unplugged.
RIDE IN STYLE
People’s Choice Car Show
Are classic cars your dad’s thing? Check out the Rotary 2nd Annual People’s Choice Car Show on Saturday, June 15, 2019, from 12 to 7 p.m. Held at Southern California Innovation Park, 9.4 miles from Skyline, invite the whole family to bring their lawn chairs and experience the live band, beer garden, food, raffle, auction, vendors and, of course, unique and classic cars. Entry is free for the public and $30 to enter your vehicle in the show. One hundred percent of net proceeds go to help fight homelessness.
Father’s Day BBQ Lunch Train
For something new, go on an adventure riding the rails at the Filmore & Western Railway Co., 28.9 miles from Skyline. On Sunday, June 16, 2019, get the family together for the Father’s Day BBQ Lunch Train and spend the afternoon on a two and a half-hour scenic train ride through the beautiful Heritage Valley while enjoying a barbecue lunch. Purchase tickets in advance for the 11 a.m. or 3 p.m. seating.
EXPERIENCE LIVE MUSIC AND LOCAL THEATER
Boots & Brews Country Music Festival
If a music festival is more your dad’s speed, get tickets to the Boots & Brews Country Music Festival at Santa Clarita’s Central Park, just 4.6 miles from Skyline. This event is on Saturday, June 15, 2019, from 2 to 10 p.m. Celebrate dads, boots, craft beer and great country music with live performances from five country artists, including headliner Jake Owen.
Local Production of “Li’l Abner”
Is your dad a big fan of the theater? Take him to one of the plays in the area. Li’l Abner is playing at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons, 8.3 miles from Skyline. Presented by ESCAPE Theatre, this comedy/musical is based on the comic strip characters created by Al Capp, and will have you laughing and clapping to the music. Show times are 7 p.m. on June 14 and 15, and 2 p.m. on June 15 and 16. Call the box office for tickets.
Remember to make reservations for lunch or dinner on Sunday, June 16. But don’t get your dad another tie – take him on an adventure with one or two of the above Father’s Day ideas instead.
