Pack your basket and grab a checkered blanket – it’s picnic time! What better way to experience life wide open than by enjoying a meal outdoors? Living at Skyline, a new master-planned community in Santa Clarita, you can have a field day picnicking at any of these picturesque destinations in the surrounding Santa Clarita Valley.

Ed Davis Park
Reward yourself after a hike through Towsley View Loop Trail with a picnic tucked into the cottonwoods at Trail Junction 5. This specific section has some of the best views of the surrounding canyons, so be sure to stop and smell the roses. For more captivating sights of the Santa Clarita and the Sierra Polena Mountains, take the Don Mullally Trail, located just off the Trail Junction 5 footbridge.

Vasquez Rocks Natural Area and Nature Center
Striking sandstone rock formations and a seasonal stream stretch across this spectacular high desert near Agua Dulce Springs. If this space seems familiar to you despite never having visited it, several episodes of hit shows including “The Big Bang Theory” and the original “Star Trek” series were filmed at Vasquez Rocks. Take the Pacific Crest Trail for a hike and then enjoy your meal at the tree-lined picnic tables area.

William S. Hart Park
Surrounding the William S. Hart Museum is a sprawling park where you can spread your blanket and enjoy a picnic lunch before visiting the museum at the park. For larger gatherings, reserve the park’s new picnic area recently designed by a local Eagle Scout. Keep an eye out for the herd of buffalo that live at the park, and don’t forget to stop by the barnyard to say hello to all the adorable animals.

Valencia Summit Park
Next to the Santa Clarita Valley YMCA is an equally family-friendly space great for running, playing and dining outdoors. Play catch in the large open field, burn a few calories with a game of tennis or hang out in the shade while the kids enjoy the monkey bars and playscape. Your furry friend can also join in on the fun at Summit Park; leashes are required.

Looking for some extra fresh food to take on your picnic? Stop by Old Town Newhall Farmers Market every Saturday for all sorts of fresh and seasonal fruits and vegetables, cheeses, baked goods, herbs and prepared foods.

You can also meet up with neighbors for a picnic or cookout at The Lookout, Skyline’s action-packed rec center. In addition to multiple dining areas both indoors and out, at the edge of this breathtaking amenity center is a spacious outdoor dining area overlooking the Santa Clarita Valley.
