Love to go hiking? We bet your four-legged friend loves to hike, too. With acres and acres of dedicated open space, and a number of paseos and trails both within the community and in the surrounding area, Skyline in Santa Clarita is ideally located for nature-lovers. When you and Buddy want to get out and explore, check out these scenic, dog-friendly hiking spots in the Santa Clarita area.

Quigley Canyon Open Space

In Old Town Newhall, this over 4-mile trail system is open to hikers, equestrian riders and, yes, your furry pal! Enjoy incredible views of the Santa Clarita Valley and Santa Susana Mountains as you explore. If you want to avoid the steeper inclines, plan out your route on the trails map. However, if you’re up for the challenge, you’ll be rewarded with inspiring vistas of Angeles National Forest.

East Walker Ranch

It’s hard to believe this majestic land is just minutes away from Skyline. Bring your pup and discover why East Walker Ranch has been called the most beautiful piece of untouched land in Los Angeles County. Across this 140-acre park are several viewpoints and artifacts from the Walker family’s former homestead built in 1909. Three separate trails (Walker Loop, Reynier Trail and Allen Trail) give you several routes, with Allen Trail connecting to Golden Valley Ranch Open Space as you travel north.

Haskell Canyon Open Space

As one of the highest points in the Santa Clarita area, you can enjoy a sunrise or sunset hike here as you trek through the heart of the canyon and up to the crest. Note for parents of senior doggies: Many of the trails here are steep and may be tougher for dogs with arthritis. However, just at the end of a cul-de-sac off North Deer Springs Drive is the entrance to the easiest route.

Towsley Canyon

The 5.6-mile loop at Ed Davis Park begins from The Old Road south of the 5 Freeway. There are a ton of interesting rock formations to explore here, including The Narrows, along with remnants of old oil equipment sites. Keep a close eye on your pupper throughout this hike; the area also contains natural tar pits. With the beautiful views here, it’s the perfect place for a morning picnic.

At Skyline, living a healthy lifestyle just comes naturally. You and your furry companion can always enjoy more than 1,600 acres of open space – right in your own backyard. To learn more about Skyline, join the Interest List below.
