During the month of August in 2019, all new homes purchased at Skyline will come with free SunPower® solar panels. Here are a few tips to make the most efficient use of your home’s solar energy, so you can minimize your carbon footprint and your utility bill.
Follow the Sun
Solar panels convert the sun’s rays into electricity, effectively generating free power that can be used in your house. So, it makes sense to use that electricity in the most efficient way to avoid pulling (and paying for) excess power from the grid.
On average, solar power is generated between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with peak generation between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. So, consider using your highest energy-drawing appliances during this peak time. Clothes dryers, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, ovens, dishwashers and pool equipment (especially heaters) are notorious electricity consumers. If you or members of your family aren’t home during this time, consider putting these devices on a timer.
Gardening Gets Even Greener
Skyline homes offer an ideal opportunity to get outside and get your green on. Garden tools such as electric mowers and trimmers can run off solar power. Try using a solar battery to power LED landscaping lights for a little extra evening twinkle.

You’re in Charge
Your solar-powered home is equipped with an inverter that captures the electricity produced by the panels and converts it to power that can be used for your appliances, electric vehicles, toys and more. Get to know this exceptionally handy device. The inverter’s display will give you a reading on how much power is being produced by the solar panels.
Your electrical appliances all come with a power rating. Keep that info handy, because it will help you make easy decisions about which appliances to use, and when. You have the power!
