Welcome to the new year and a new decade! Did you make New Year’s resolutions?

If you’ve resolved to take better care of yourself, we’ve got your back (well, all of you, really!). Feeling a little challenged to keep them? Skyline was built from the ground up to support fresh starts and a healthy lifestyle. Here are a few tips to help keep you on point.

1. Keep It Real
Set yourself up for success. Saying you’ll never again eat another (insert guilty food pleasure here) is likely to lead to disappointment. Instead, strive for an attainable goal that allows you to tickle that urge but reduces the number of times you enjoy it. Having healthy foods close at hand is a really helpful way to keep those indulgences at bay. Fortunately, Skyline is within easy reach of some great sources of healthy food options, including Whole Foods Market, Sprouts and Movita Juice Bar. Plus, the weekend farmers markets in Santa Clarita and Old Town Newhall offer fun ways to shop healthy and get to know your local producers, purveyors and neighbors!

2. Write It Down
It sounds too simple, right? At Skyline, we embrace simplicity and the belief that good living starts with the basics. Actually documenting your resolutions is the first step toward making them a reality. Remember, even if you only get one step closer, it’s still a step in the right direction. Got fitness goals? Of course you do! The Power House gym at The Lookout makes attaining them totally convenient, and there are some great apps available to help you stay on track. FitBod, JEFIT and CrossFit® are just a few to consider for weight training, stretching, cardio and more.

3. Unplug
Turn off the TV? Close the laptop? Leave the phone at home? Seriously?! We’re not suggesting you disconnect entirely from those screens, but a healthy break from technology has shown real scientific benefits for your health. Thankfully, nature beckons! And, it’s literally right outside your door. Skyline’s miles of paseos and nature trails provide access to acres of flora and fauna — not to mention a clear head, heart and lungs. Whether hiking, biking or merely meandering, a trip outside is the perfect way to nurture your most precious relationship – the one you have with yourself.

4. Find Your Peeps
When it comes to your health and fitness, you don’t need to go it alone. There are lots of people who have probably made similar resolutions, including your like-minded neighbors at Skyline. Find a buddy, group or mentor, tell them your goals and ask them to help you stay motivated and accountable. Your resolutions could also provide a great opportunity to reconnect with valued friends and family. Why not put that EnergySmart® kitchen to work to prepare a healthy dinner together, dividing and conquering the tasks of shopping and preparing? And remember to celebrate the time together! The close-knit neighborhoods of Skyline provide the ideal setting for you and your family to blossom – physically, mentally, and emotionally.

We hope these tips and insights have helped you to get, and more importantly, stay on your path to a healthier, happier you. Be kind to yourself. If resolutions slip – or even go entirely off the rails – stay positive and get back on track.

You’ve got this, and we’ve got you!
